'It was some fashion show put up by a leather factory in Turkey. / Türkiye....28.08.2009 Turkey is the second largest leather exporting country in the world. The jackets you bought at home were probably made there. Leather processing is a traditional handicraft in Turkey and was developed greatly during the Ottoman period. Istanbul\'s traditional leather manufacturing industry was concentrated in the district of Kazlicesme, where Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror had 360 tannery shops built to be rented out to leather craftsmen. Over the next 500 years Kazlicesme became a notorious eyesore which could be smelt long before it came into sight and the hundreds of small manufacturers have now been moved to a spacious modern industrial estate in Pendik. For their own market the goods are outstanding and very reasonably priced. The attention to detail is excellent and the quality superb. When purchasing leather goods, one should be aware of the very wide range of products; different animal skins, baby lamb, lamb, suede, nubuk, pelluria, etc. and their differing qualities and prices. A word of warning, when shopping for leather goods of any description, make sure it is real leather. Some vendors will run a lighter over the garment to prove it\'s real. However, the fake leather garments are very good fakes and will also stand the flame being run over them.'
