'Is Fashion Important?: Yes or No (100 Years of Fashion)'

Without it we would be running around the world butt naked like we’re 60s hippies high on that lucid shhh. But can you imagine that though running around the world butt naked like Adam and Eve but as i was saying, clothing is an essential part of our everyday life and The majority of us like to dress up. Whether that is in designer like Tom Ford, Gucci and Ralph or something more street and regular like H&M or Supreme. we all love to dress up! So Let\'s take a few little moment to talk about Fashion Or as it’s known by almost every Ricegum fans, Supreme. Now the question i want to ask you all is that well is Fashion important? Would you say Yes or No? Lets look at why some people would say Yes. Fashion is a movement. Therefore some would argue yes Fashion is important because it\'s society reflected onto clothing. you see like i mentioned before, it\'s a movement directed by a change of attitudes in society. i mean just look at the past 100 years of fashion. Edwardian Period, a more laid back, fun loving and carefree period in comparison to the Victorian Era and this was represented in the clothing, more loose and active. But however during this era women were still considered as property of men. They were more or less seen as house trophies! And that was reflected by the clothing, designed less for the practical use of women and more as an art decoration that men could put in the kitchen or use in the bedroom!  But then society went through the first world war and with the men taking up arms and fighting, women came to the forefront of society! And that was reflected in fashion because women clothing became more about the woman. Practical, comfortable, free, independent!! And the person who played such an important role in this was The Famous Coco Chanel. She saw and opportunity and gave women want they wanted, made them feel like they were much more than a decoration for men. So yes some would argue that fashion is important because it\'s part of what represents society in different eras. Look at The Roaring twenties for example, that era was one of the most prosperous decade in the past 200 years, the world was moving fast and attitudes starting to change drastically. The advent of Jazz made turned the world into a more sociable place, people laughed, people danced. People had fun and that was expressed through the clothing. It was loose, fun, sexy, sophisticated, quick, dazzling, sparkly, showy, jazzy. Then there’s swinging 60s, the decade of the beatles! Heavily influenced by flower power. With ever growing strife in the world. Vietnam, civil right, people wanted to escape! They just wanted peace, they just wanted to live and escape somewhere else. They wanted to remain youthful and be carefree living with freedom. And that was expressed through the clothing again. As it was expressive, colourful, casual quick. Then there’s the 90s, the rebellious decade! The people that didn’t want to conform to the norm and brought about a punk attitude, we didn’t want to be glamorous, we wanted to be edgy, new and different and again that was represented in the fashion with the anti glam style, tomboyish outfits. A more grungie and street approach to clothing.   Let\'s be a little less historical and more practical. Fashion is Good way to express yourself and your personality. And through this it Can promote creativity as fashion use aspects of art and other art forms. It gives you Sense of individuality, its something that you bought because you wanted to and really and trully the world would be a little boring, plain and generic without fashion. Fashion shows the world who we are as it representation of different cultures. Now remember the statement i made earlier? Now that is the reason why some people would argue that NO Fashion isn’t important. Fashion arouses insecurities, it\'s one of the main driving force behind, jealousy, envy and bullying. Especially when your form of expression not accepted by the majority. How can it be giving us a sense of individuality when some of us are in some part doing for the sake of validation! Fashion is a selfish and egotistical thing, it\'s all about you! It doesn’t represent your values as a human being! How many of you hypebeast have looked at supreme and gone yeah i’m buying this because i want to save the world! 90% percent of the time that’s not the reason why we buy clothes! The purpose of clothes is to keep us warm! What in the world does a £100,000 snakeskin boot have to do with keeping warm. What does haute couture have to do with keeping warm. Fashion turns keeping warm into something that is not practical.'
