'Let’s talk about why white sneakers are the best shoes you can get, and break down how much it costs to own shoes at 4 different price points! Follow me on Instagram @rchangster A lot of people are intimidated at the thought of upgrading their wardrobe because they think they’ll have to spend a lot of money to do so. With any great outfit, it always starts at the feet and more specifically, what shoes you’re wearing. Even though shoes cost more than an average shirt or pair of pants, you don’t need to buy dozens of shoes to have a great wardrobe -- you only need a few good pairs. I used to have over 30 pairs of shoes, but I learned that this was way too many and that I could get the job done with much less. I think that if you get one pair of white sneakers, you will never need to buy another pair of shoes again. White sneakers match with everything, and that takes the guesswork out of picking an outfit because you have a pair of shoes that goes with anything you wear. This is also helpful because you know you’ll be wearing your white sneakers often, and you can avoid having a lot of other shoes that just sit on the shelf and don’t get worn. When I say white sneaker, I’m talking about a white lace-sneaker that is made from leather, has minimal branding, and has no -- or very minimal -- colors. Leather is classic, refined, and able to be dressed up or down. Although more athletic and streetwear sneakers can be white, the more common performance or athletic silhouettes of these shoes make them more difficult to dress up for nicer occasions. This means shoes like the Nike AirMax, Roshe Run, Huarache, Jordans, Adidas Ultra Boost, Yeezys, etc. are excluded. I am such a firm believer in white sneakers that I took a pair to a 2-week long training I had for work. This training was day and night, including weekends, for two whole weeks. This means that I wore my white sneakers for work, meals, hanging out, exploring on the weekends, and even going to the gym. However, I knew that my white sneakers would match my outfit whether I was wearing a turtleneck and slacks, button-up and chinos, or t-shirt and jeans so it was much less stressful to get ready every morning. My white sneakers worked great for those two weeks, but white sneakers have been in style for decades. One of the most prominent examples is the Adidas Stan Smith: a shoe that debuted in the 1960s, but are still being worn today in 2020. As talked about earlier, the Stan Smith has been so popular for so many years because it is made of leather, has minimal colors and branding, and a clean silhouette. Because white sneakers are so popular, they are made by a ton of different brands and at all kinds of price points. From my experience in owning so many shoes, there are four price categories that a sneaker can fall into: the Cheap category ($1-$40), the Entry Level category (~$75), the Quality category (~$150), and the High End category ($250+). I own or have owned shoes from all four categories, and can notice the pros and cons associated with each category. Using these categories, I will be comparing shoes from H&M, Adidas, Oliver Cabell, and Common Projects. Assuming that you already own one pair of shoes, I can calculate approximately how much it will cost to own a pair of white sneakers in each respective category. I do this by using what I call the Cost Per Use calculation, where I divide the cost of each shoe with the amount of times it is worn within a year. The shoes that I discuss and their prices are: H&M Canvas Sneakers ($20), Adidas Stan Smith ($60), Oliver Cabell Low 1 ($180), and Common Projects Achilles Low ($410). The video goes more into detail about the Cost Per Use and how to determine the frequency of wearing each shoe, but even shoes in the High End category -- like the Common Projects Achilles Low -- are not as expensive as the price tag may say. Shoes in any of the categories will still allow you to get a reasonable bang for your buck, but only because white sneakers are so versatile and can be worn in so many different situations. Having good style does not mean that you have to spend a ton of money, but if you do splurge on something more expensive, make sure you can get frequent usage out of it so that you can make it worth its price tag. But, buying things that are versatile and can be worn in a bunch of places -- like white sneakers -- is how you stay financially fashionable!'
