Siyethemba Duma was born in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu Natal and goes by the name Mathew Nolim. He studied fashion design at the Durban University of Technology, after his studies he did his internship with Terence Bray Studio. In 2014, Mathew launched his fashion brand MATTE NOLIM, with which he participated with in the retail program by the KZN Fashion Counsel called ’21 Steps to Retail.’ The program paved his way leading him to showcasing at the 2015 Autumn/Winter SA Fashion Week which he followed with his Spring/Summer collection in 2016. To raving reviews he also showed at the Mercedes Benz AFI Joburg Fashion week with his Spring/Summer 2017 collection. The Matte Nolim aesthetic is modern minimalism, a brand dressing a young mind set on more than age group, Matte Nolim targets the young at heart and professionals. Matte Nolim has been featured in a number of local and international fashion magazines including Elle Magazine South Africa, Cosmopolitan South Africa and has featured in a number of South African TV adverts and recently was the first and only South African brand to be featured on the British Vogue in 2017.
