Alexander McQueen https://tinyurl.com/y4qmgjke At school he performed below par, he was only drawing clothes during class. At the age of sixteen, he saw on television that tailors on Savile Row were looking for boys who wanted to apprentice with them. Alexander McQueen went for it, was hired at the distinguished tailor-made company Anderson & Sheppard and learned the technique that would become the core of everything he would do later. Alexander McQueen Turned his shows into grim shows and enveloped his models in combative creations. A revealing documentary about the controversial and harassed designer premiered at the end of September, simply titled McQueen. “I seek the border from my dark side, pull all the horrors out of my soul and put them on the catwalk.” The quote is from the English fashion designer (1969-2010). Alexander McQueen He told the press that after a successful show, he sometimes wondered where he would get the money the next day to buy milk. His life changed radically when the famous French fashion house Givenchy asked him in 1996 to succeed John Galliano as creative director. He was only 27 years old, and suddenly he had a high salary and a studio at the Places des Vosges. Alexander McQueen As he made more money and had more success, Alexander McQueen only became more unhappy. He experienced the pressure to keep coming up with swirling, innovative designs as unbearably heavy. There were problems with cocaine use, which caused him to have delusional attacks. The suicide of his patron Isabella Blow meant a hard blow to Alexander McQueen, undoubtedly because it had broken with her after his transfer to Givenchy. 1. Alexander McQueen designed the wardrobe for David Bowie‘s tours in 1996-1997, as well as the Union Jack coat worn by Bowie on the cover of his 1997 album Earthling. 2. McQueen’s early runway collections developed his reputation for controversy and shock tactics (earning the title “l’enfant terrible” and “the hooligan of English fashion”),with trousers aptly named “bumsters” and a collection titled “Highland Rape”. 3. Alexander McQueen’s “bumsters” spawned a trend in low rise jeans; on their debut they attracted many comments and debate. Michael Oliveira-Salac, the director of Blow PR and a friend of Alexander’s said, “The bumster for me is what defined McQueen. 4. One of most celebrated and dramatic catwalk shows was his 2001 Spring/Summer collection, named VOSS. The centre piece tableau that dominated the room was an enormous glass box. Alexander McQueen “My shows are about sex, drugs and rock and roll. It’s about excitement and goosebumps. I want heart attacks. I want ambulances, “he said. For Alexander McQueen, life was a bit like a fairy tale of the Grimm brothers. A fascinating documentary about the English designer has now been made by Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui, entitled McQueen. The film is built around five spectacular shows that played a pivotal role in his career. He was never really in Place in Paris. Moreover, the workload was inhuman. He delivered at least ten shows a year; for Givenchy, but also for his own label. In 2001, he closed the door of the studio on the Place des Vosges for good and closed a deal with the Gucci Group. Alexander McQueen died by suicide in 2010, at the age of 40, at his home in Mayfair, London.
