'In 1964 the Beatles became popular in the US. Twiggy was the “it” girl of the mid 1960s. She was seen on the covers of most magazines. This helped to inspire most women in the mid 1960\'s to try all new styles. Pucci, an Italian designer of the time, created psychedelic color palettes which transformed wearers of simple gowns into walking art. By the late 1960s, the times were changing with fashion following. Fashion began to scandalously baring more of the body than before by 1967.Everything was above the knee, including the most conservative suits. The etiquette that included hats and gloves was long gone. Both Martin Luther King and Robert F. Kennedy were assassinated in 1968. Neil Armstrong became the first man on the moon in 1969. Woodstock was also in 1969 consisting of hippie fashion everywhere. Brigette Bardot made the Bardot neckline, which was a wide open neck exposing the shoulders, and the bikini, gingham print, and a beehive inspired hairstyle popular. Audrey Hepburn was the Hollywood actress that was also a huge fashion icon because of her role in \"Breakfast at Tiffany\'s\" which was one of the most popular films of the 1960s. Twiggy was the most popular fashion model of the time. She was known for her pixie-look . This included shift dresses, ballet flats, cigarette pants, and a very cropped haircut. In 1970, the Beatles broke up. In 1971, VCRs were introduced. So were the popular hot pants and bell bottoms. In the early 1970s there was a continuation of mini-skirts, bell-bottoms and the hippie look the came from the late 1960s. There were many fashion trends that began in popular culture. These included platform shoes, which were worn by both men and women. Fashions of the time were inspired by glam rock stars such as David Bowie and Roxy Music. The U.S. President Richard Nixon resigned in 1974. In the late 1970\'s, women and girls grew their hair long, and parted it in the center. This was a style that carried from the late 1960\'s. Women also liked blonde-streaked or frosted hair. Both sexes liked wide-legged, flared jeans or trousers throughout the decade. This style was immortalized in the 1977 hit Saturday Night Fever, starring John Travolta. Microsoft was founded in 1975. By then, hip-huggers were gone and replaced with high-waisted jeans and trousers with wide flared legs. The leotard for dancers became a huge fashion accessory for ladies by 1975 and that remained in style throughout the decade. In the early to mid 1970s, Hairstyles included the wavy gypsy cut, the layered shag, and the flicked style where the hair flicked into small wings at the temples. The television series \'Charlie\'s Angles\' made this style popular. In the early 80s, there was less color. There was a lot browns and tans and oranges. There were blocky shapes everywhere and girls liked dressing like a tennis player. Velvet and velour were very popular. The waistline was still very high. Early 1980s fashion was very similar to the late 1970s. In 1983, there was a slight 1950s-style throwback, mainly in ladies dresses. There were bright colored accessories like sunglasses, bangles and hoop earrings. Women loved teased hair, loud makeup and neon colors because they were an important part of 80s style. It was a very flexible time where women could wear skin-tight cotton pants with leggings and a huge turtleneck sweater. Then the next day wear parachute pants with a small top and a high-waist belt.
