'This is a list of all the classes I took to get my BFA in Fashion Design at The Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. I found a few people online asking what kind of classes fashion designers actually take in school. I’m sharing every single class I took to get my fashion design bachelors degree at the Fashion Institute of Technology. I looked at the current list of classes/descriptions on FIT’s website, and some of the classes I took either aren’t listed anymore, or have a different class name. Old catalog from 2007-2009 http://catalog.fitnyc.edu/pastcatalogs/_UG07-09.pdf You can find all my class descriptions in this catalogue. Things do change quickly, esp for fashion. Technology, like having a personal website portfolio, or the computer programs you need to know to have a job. A year or so ago, when I was applying to fashion design jobs, one requirement I came across was Web PLM. So I’m sure FIT has slightly changed the requirements for the Fashion Design BFA degree. But these classes give you a good idea of what 4 years as a Fashion Design Major would be like. Class Codes & Names: 1. AP111 Apparel Design 2. AP143 Design Room Techniques 3.
