A heaving mass of photographers pushed and shoved to shoot model Linda Evangelista\'s boyfriend, actor Kyle McLachlan. As for the clothes, Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld showed coy, pretty outfits for young things that got a tepid audience rating. Lagerfeld favoured cute, girlish Debbie Reynolds-style clothes from the fifties, with shorter skirts. Nobody could find fault with the demure little fitted suits and their easily flared skirts. The clothes looked just right for ingenues, debutantes or wannabees: scoop-necked, waist-cinching reds or blacks or sequined pastel suits with the Chanel bow at the decollete, all topped with funny feathered hats for the zany Lagerfeld note.
