'(6 Jul 2016) FOR WORKAHOLIC GIAMBATTISTA VALLI, SLEEP IS HIS \'FAVORITE SPORT\' It\'s a big summer for sports in France, with the UEFA European football championship drawing to a close and cycling event Tour de France in its first week. But, in the world of high fashion, one designer\'s favorite sport is catching up on some much-needed sleep. \"Sleep in my bed (is) my favorite sport ever,\" Giambattista Valli said on Monday (4 JULY 2016). The Italian designer creates six shows a year: two haute couture and two ready-to-wear for his namesake house, plus two extra ready-to-wear collections for Moncler Gamme Rouge. Designers work relentlessly ahead of Paris Fashion Week, with haute couture shows requiring a level of unsurpassed detailed craftsmanship. Paris is the only fashion city to hold haute couture shows. Currently, only 18 fashion houses are part of the very select couture circle, with nine additional guest members invited by the French Federation of Couture. Valli said haute couture is for \"happy moments.\" \"I mean you can dress with everything every day. You can dress everywhere today. It\'s for special moments or, in any case, it\'s like something extraordinary. So normally it\'s like for celebrations, parties whatever, so it\'s a little bit about this.\" And quite a celebration was had backstage after Valli\'s show, as Canadian recording artist Celine Dion made a rare fashion week appearance. The Grammy-winning artist said she was grateful to her stylist for bringing her to the show. \"Wonderful for me to have seen what I just saw tonight. I want to thank my stylist Law Roach for bringing me out of my closet for 20 years. I do not attend any defile, very, very rarely.\" Also showing her latest collection in Paris - Iris van Herpen. Like Valli, the Dutch fashion designer isn\'t a big fan of sports, preferring dance instead. \"For this collection, I collaborated with a choreographer,\" explained van Herpen after the show. \"So to have the models move on their position. She\'s called Nanine Linning, so I\'ll tell her name as my favorite (sic), yeah.\" Finally, no fashion week would be complete without an appearance from Chanel and Fendi creative director Karl Lagerfeld. Speaking backstage at his show for Chanel, the legendary designer said he only had one career path in mind from his youth. \"I never wanted a different life. I\'m pretty happy with what I got. That doesn\'t exist. We have to manage what we want and I didn\'t managed too bad.\" The famed white-haired designer is also a photographer and artist.
