Crew obviously and never shock or surprise anyone, or surprised people in a positive way. But you can still identify that this is J. Crew and we\'\'ve taken the next step forward. Some of the designs are classic silhouettes that we are known for, but updating them by new fabrications or new proportions or taking a cashmere sweater and exaggerating the silhouette. So it is classics with a little bit of an updated twist.\" 7. Various of of J. Crew men\'\'s collection 8. SOUNDBITE (English) Jenna Lyons, J. Crew\'\'s Creative Director: \"We have some really special pieces that will be exposed to the public and I think it\'\'s nice to be able to have people feel the buzz and be able to get excited about it. We\'\'re not doing a runway show because we shouldn\'\'t be doing a runway show because we are still J. Crew. We\'\'ll respect and leave that for the Derek Lam\'\'s of the world and they should do that. But we\'\'re still incredibly excited and honored to be here.\" 9. Various of of J. Crew women\'\'s collection STORYLINE J. CREW MAKES NEW YORK FASHION WEEK DEBUT Preppy American retailer J. Crew presented their first-ever show at New York Fashion Week Tuesday (13 Sept.). The casual presentation held in the tents at Lincoln Center allowed guests, including stylists, retailers and editors, to get a closer look at the collection as models stood still on platforms that ran down the center of the tent. Music superstar Beyonce strolled through, before stopping by Vera Wang\'\'s and Rodarte\'\'s runway shows. Jenna Lyons, the company\'\'s president and executive creative director, said the low-key event was right where the brand belonged. \"We\'\'re not doing a runway show because we shouldn\'\'t be doing a runway show because we are still J. Crew. We\'\'ll respect and leave that for the Derek Lam\'\'s of the world and they should do that. But we\'\'re still incredibly excited and honored to be here,\" she said. The women\'\'s collection by designer Marissa Webb embraced one of spring\'\'s hottest trends - saturated brights. From sparkly fuschia separates, to a lime green jumpsuit, to canary yellow shorts - the line was clearly meant to stand out in a crowd. The brand\'\'s signature horizontal stripes could be seen throughout -- on lightweight knits and colorful sequined skirts -- and many looks came complete with a J. Crew staple, the tailored button-down blouse. The collection was not much of a departure from what J. Crew\'\'s loyal fans are used to seeing in stores -- an intentional move by Webb. \"We wanted to feel like it is still J. So it is classics with a little bit of an updated twist,\" she explained before the show. The men\'\'s collection by designer Frank Muytjens featured a more subdued palate with beige and earth tone shorts, navy and grey sport coats, dark denim jeans and slim-fit slacks. Stripes made their way into the men\'\'s line too, on ties and light-weight sweaters.
