'I am singing a Cole Porter song written specifically for his Broadway musical, \"Kiss Me Kate,\" based on Shakespeare\'s \"Taming of the Shrew.\" The song (which is sung near the end of the second act of this 1948 musical) was probably inspired by a Poem written by the English Poet, Ernest Dowson, \"Non Sum Qualis Eram Bonae sub Regno Cynarae,\" which has the refrain \"I have been faithful to thee, Cynara, in my fashion, a phrase \"faithful in my fashion\" was long in the language before the song was written and was even the title of a Hollywood movie in 1946. These show tunes were not only for the Broadway stage, they reached into the pop culture and became what was considered the pop songs of the day. Artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Eartha Kitt, Peggy Lee, Della Reese and Julie London----All had recordings in the popular genre. In the lyrics of this song, the singer protests that she is always faithful to her main love in her own way, despite seeing and accepting gifts from wealthy men. In 1953 A 3-D film of this story was produced starring Howard Keel and Kathryn Grayson. This is the style I hoped to achieve, and I hope you enjoy my rendition of this charming upbeat show tune. Thank you for listening and have an OH HAPPY WEEK ahead filled with good things! . . .Martha/MrsFlashback'
