'A new fashion line produced in collaboration between leading fashion designer Jason Wu, MADWORSKSHOP and Otis College of Art and Design, explores the history and symbolism of the women’s uniform. Building on Wu’s mentorship program, the collaboration permitted fifteen fashion students at Otis College to work closely with the award-winning designer for nine months. During this time, the students gained access to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s Costume and Textiles Department and worked on their designs. Fusing traditional 1940s and \'50s uniform styles with modern haute couture techniques, the new uniform collection is the first of its kind. The collaborative project grew into a runway show at the college on May 4, 2019, and a display in the Beverly Hills’ Neiman Marcus windows. Transgressing gender boundaries and revamping the historical uniform, the collection confronts gender, identity, and social politics. The collection pays homage to the past while paving the way into the future. MADWORKSHOP: madworkshop.org'
