At a cocktail party where someone doesn’t know me, I am the easiest person to fluster. All you have to do is ask me very simply “What do you do?” Immediately I fall all over myself and I never really know what to say. After all, in my world everyone is a photographer. So, saying “I’m a photographer,” really says nothing at all. Consequently, I try to put a finer point on it by saying “I’m a fashion photographer.” But the truth is, I’m terribly bored by fashion per se. And saying that “I’m a beauty photographer,” is even less enlightening and perhaps more confusing. The fact is, I’m a bit of both with a huge dose of fantasy and cinema related references thrown in. I should add that my “style,” if I may be so self-absorbed, is strangely both modern and classic, with a thread of enchantment woven in. And because I don’t do well “in a harness,”—in fact I have very little interest in wearing one at all— I don’t ever hang a sign that says “Photographer for Hire.” What this means, is that 99% of my work is self-generated and created solely for my own entertainment and to amuse my friends. Having said all that, allow me at this point to say simply and with as little awkwardness as possible... “This is what I do and I am so humbled & honored to share it with you.\" Julian James Wilde'
