'Serena Williams makes sure she treats herself. The 38-year-old tennis champion leads a busy life. She’s constantly splitting her time between tennis, family, and multiple business ventures. Williams has fashion and jewelry lines as well as other lucrative deals including one with Nike. When she became a parent in 2016, her mindset shifted. Williams didn’t want to do anything for herself but focus all her energy on her now-2-year-old daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., whom she shares with her husband, Reddit cofounder and entrepreneur, Alexis Ohanian. In the years since becoming a mother, Williams has made sure to set time aside to take care of herself. But it wasn’t always that way. Serena Williams: ‘I wanted to do it all for my daughter’. Speaking to Shape in an article published on March 23, 2020, Williams said when she became a mom she didn’t want to do things for herself. She took care of her daughter and didn’t necessarily set time aside for herself. “After having a baby, I didn’t want to do anything for myself. I wanted to do it all for my daughter,” she said before adding that she eventually found ways to show herself some love. “It’s a great attitude, but moms don’t treat themselves the way they deserve. So that’s my thing now.” Skin-care is one way she treats herself. Williams likes to treat herself by testing out skin-care products before bed, something anyone who is looking to show themselves some care and attention can easily do. Not only does Williams enjoy trying new skin-care products, she posts videos of herself getting ready on Instagram, oftentimes with her daughter. Not only is Williams a top professional athlete, she enjoys experimenting with beauty products. Another way Williams likes to be kind to herself; spend time at home. With her career, she certainly travels more than most and relishes time she gets to spend at home in Florida with her family. “The other day, we pulled into the driveway after another trip, and Olympia [her daughter] looks at the house and goes, ‘Yaaaaay,’” she said with her arms in the air. “It made me happy, but it also broke my heart. I thought, Wait, am I traveling too much?’ I think that’s my happiest place—just being at home.
