'Alexander McQueen Spring / Summer 2013 Ready-To-Wear Collection by Sarah Burton Alexander McQueen\'s Sarah Burton has generated quite a buzz with her latest Spring 2013 collection. Burton was inspired by bees, she said before her show, because theirs is \"a matriarchal society where the females rule.\" The honeycomb became the starting point for an array of extravagant fabrics like opulent brocades, silk damask and black and gold silk jacquard which morphed into hourglass suits and evening gowns with dramatically exaggerated hips and wide pannier cages. The collection, a master study of nature, femininity and the idealization of the female form had an undercurrent of theatricality with a hint of dance hall girl naughtiness, with models wearing shapely corsets and exposed underwear. Burton opened the show with a wasp-waisted jacket with a rounded double peplum over a tortoiseshell resin body cast and a racy, sheer, open weave skirt. Other similarly shaped jackets came down the runway paired with either slim pencil skirts, tiny shorts or cropped cigarette pants, all worn with sculpted black or white patent wedge shoes with translucent lucite heels filled with gold crystals. Among the many outstanding looks was an off the shoulder, gold on black damask, honeycomb patterned jacket with peaked shoulders worn over a lacquered tortoiseshell bustier embellished with tiny, gold, jeweled bees and matching cropped paneled, slit front trousers. This was followed by a shiny, black, honeycombed dinner suit trimmed in patent leather over a molded bustier and matching long fluted skirt. As the show progressed, Burton began to simultaneously dress and undress the models, using traditional lingerie as a base, and cages and corsets on the outside of the dresses clasped with tortoiseshell belts and glossy, plexiglass peplum frames. For the finale, she sent out an impressive array of exquisite gowns in honey gold, vivid yellow, red and pristine white, including a yellow concertina pleated gown with pannier skirt that was speckled with gold jeweled bees along the hips. The final looks included a vivid red evening gown studded with rosettes of three dimensional flowers enhanced by a lacquered tortoiseshell harness and a cylindrical, black beekeeper\'s hat. All the gowns was meticulously constructed using lighter than air crinoline cages as an external hoop skirt over the dresses. As Burton said afterwards, \"It was looking at womanhood and embracing the female form. I wanted it to feel sensual. I wanted to have a lightness to it and I wanted it to feel erotic, but not in an overly fleshy kind of way. Burton illustrated the concept, with a seductive black see through, nightie version of an evening gown with a sheer bodice under an exaggerated hour glass shaped corset with laser cut patent leather trim over a black, sheer, full skirt. The Alexander McQueen spring 2013 collection proved to be nothing short of rapturous beauty. The kind of intense beauty and prettiness that will make you swoon from the magnificent details and extraordinary construction of the clothes. This might be Burton\'s most fascinating collection yet for the house of Alexander McQueen.
